Pros

- Great opportunities for travel (if interested). - Well defined career tracks and pay scales. - Consistent hours

Cons

- You face extreme bureaucracy at times. It can take 9+ months for simple things like professional registration reimbursement. - Poor IT infrastructure. Computers take upwards of 30 minutes to turn on and you will face semi-frequent outages. - Outdated processes and programs. NAVFAC continues to use proprietary programs that don’t work instead of adopting commercial alternatives. For example construction submittals are still processed via Outlook and Excel because NAVFAC’s proprietary submittal management software has faced repeated delays and failures. - Very flat organization. Field offices generally have a handful of GS-14s and the bulk of the engineers/construction managers are GS-12. If you secure a GS-13 spot there is very little opportunity to advance your career from there.

Pros

Won’t fire anyone, know how much you’re going to make.

Cons

Bad raises. Job growth is very uncommon. Management is incompetent from top to bottom. Not enough people and too much work. Nepotism is rampant in this organization. Unqualified people are promoted. Career bad apples are left without being fired or disciplined. First level managers are useless. They at too much red tape to do the most basic things. Upper levels are arrogant and hard headed.hiring has been frozen for a year yet somehow the ‘bud club’ is promoting people constantly who are in their ‘inner circle’. Hiring actions are super sketchy, names are dropped for specific people to be hired etc. It’s crazy
