Pros

2 weeks vacation on day one. A steady job if you don't expect advancemant or raises worth a darn. A sense of comradery because everyone there knows they are in the same horrible situation.

Cons

Low pay for the industry. Big turnaround, constantly having to train new employees because the hiring requirements are low (finding out the new hire doesn't know what a crescent wrench is is quite the norm). Dealing with supervisors that don't supervise. A typical work day through my 3 years involved showing up everyday with little idea what I was going to do that day, was self trained from day one, supervisor provided no guidence , no positive reinforcement, no training. New rules were created on a weekly basis, maybe a power trip mentality. Whatever the employee guidelines are on day one, expect them to change dozens of times. Safety is a big issue at HydraRig, they talk a good game and do their monthly safety meetings but nothing is ever implemented, you hardly ever see HSE staff walking the facilities. Favoritism is also a huge problem. Another issue is work schedules and department placement, supervisors will move you to departments you have no experience in and you are left to your own devices with no training or guidance. Schedules change daily without notice, 8 hours Monday, then out of the blue 10 on Tuesday, back to 8, the from no where mandatory Saturday. No consistency. The shops are normally a mess, equipment is old and dangerous.

Pros

Very work/life balance friendly. Very strong benefits package.

Cons

Very Siloed. NOV is the result of over 100 acquisitions and the fractured condition of systems and procedures is evident. Leadership is working on it.
