Pros

- It is a mission-driven, media outlet that cares deeply about getting the facts right. - There is an expectation of excellent performance. - Strong national and international newsgathering infrastructure. - For a nonprofit, the pay and benefits are pretty good.

Cons

- The governance structure is a mess. NPR's customers (member stations) serve as NPR's bosses, too. This makes it hard to confront 21st century challenges and take advantage of opportunities.

Pros

I was fully remote, learned so much from a great group of peers, the union is strong and active, pay was fair

Cons

The federal funding saga put a damper on morale, but that was pretty outside of the scope of what my team/manager could control.

Pros

tiny desks happen at work

Cons

soulless and corporate, management is all-powerful, benefits are slowly disappearing, few career prospects unless you fit a certain "profile"
