Pros

In many ways, NPR is most professional media outlet in America, with the best coverage of news, events, ideas and arts and cultural content, and the work environment reflects it. Employees are passionate about their work and enthusiastic about coming to work each day, striking an appropriate work-life balance. There are opportunities for career growth--developing skills and experience--for those who are eager to learn and willing to work hard. As with any work: it is what you make of it.

Cons

As with all organizations, bureaucracy can stall things from getting accomplished. If you don't work in content creation (i.e. don't have union advocacy) compensation is less; but there are great benefits.

Pros

I was fully remote, learned so much from a great group of peers, the union is strong and active, pay was fair

Cons

The federal funding saga put a damper on morale, but that was pretty outside of the scope of what my team/manager could control.

Pros

tiny desks happen at work

Cons

soulless and corporate, management is all-powerful, benefits are slowly disappearing, few career prospects unless you fit a certain "profile"
