Pros

The staff is incredibly talented and passionate, especially in the news and podcasts divisions, who are not just skilled but truly the best at what they do. Their intelligence and dedication are evident in the quality of the content produced. NPR's commitment to D&I is noteworthy. The organization doesn't merely talk about D&I as a concept but actively integrates it into its culture and operations.

Cons

NPR's leadership is a major disappointment, showing a lack of cohesion and strategic alignment. Their fiscal decisions, particularly following the staff reductions in 2023, have been questionable, with seemingly egregious and unwarranted spending. This raises serious concerns about their financial management and priorities. The lack of effective collaboration within the leadership team has created a disjointed and often counterproductive working environment. The HR department has been the worst I've experienced. It offers little value and seems disconnected from the needs of the staff. The way HR has been managed and operated adds to the challenges within the organization, rather than providing solutions or support.

Pros

I was fully remote, learned so much from a great group of peers, the union is strong and active, pay was fair

Cons

The federal funding saga put a damper on morale, but that was pretty outside of the scope of what my team/manager could control.

Pros

tiny desks happen at work

Cons

soulless and corporate, management is all-powerful, benefits are slowly disappearing, few career prospects unless you fit a certain "profile"
