Pros

NRG as a company tries to have great culture with many initiatives, great communication from CEO, fun perks, good pay, benefits, and PTO. Most people are great to work with. Some flexibility in remote work. Recommend this company for position outside of sales.

Cons

Company culture is severely affected by certain members of upper management. Opportunity for growth is limited and completely based on favoritism not education, experience, success, or tenure. Micro management is high. Lack of boundaries and discrimination, especially around politics and opinions on current situations like Covid-19, vaccines, etc. Though the company is mostly liberal or neutral, this department is very conservative and if you don't align with that you're not in the inner circle. Lack of empathy and trust for those not in the "club". Too much bleed over from personal opinions that affect real business decisions. Unfair treatment of those outside of inner circle. Excessive finger pointing and criticism, even when exceeding goals and metrix, with not enough direction from leadership. No focus on innovation or growth. Can do no right attitude. Leadership feels that they know more than the feet on the ground and won't listen to feedback that doesn't support their limited and outdated views. Can you say confirmation bias? Many time consuming tasks are unessential to sales growth or job performance, and more to check up on employees who are currently being picked on. These also distract from the real work. Narrow minded leadership is not forward facing, and want things to be back as they were 10 years ago, while saying they are pushing for growth. Bullying and nitpicking from management is time consuming, exhausting, and very demotivating. Butts in seats, micro managing employees' schedules, and limited work life balance due to those lack of boundaries. Most people afraid to speak up or give a differing opinion even though all agree that these things are happening, even most of those in the inner circle. They are all afraid to stand up and lose their status so they allow the bullying to continue as long as it doesn't affect them. Leadership wants a physical return to office for collaboration, but current practices don't allow for true collaboration or innovation whether remote or in person.

Pros

Opportunity to gain power markets experience. Many different departments, exposure to many different parts of the industry. Acceptable benefits and bonus compensation.

Cons

Expected to perform tasks, upskill in AI programming, or anything to further the interests of the group, outside of stated job responsibilities. Shifted from a 2-day in office work week to 4-day in office work week, with inconsistent expectations from all levels of management. Lackluster resources for data science, in comparison to industry peers. Mostly subscription-based resources, not many on-prem resources built correctly. Company's basic infrastructure for finance & accounting used for data science work. Bad network connectivity. Website or services crucial to projects, such as PJM Data Miner 2 are sometimes blocked or non-functional. Non-technical leaders oversee software projects with inflexible or unreasonable expectations.
