Pros
The compensation is above average at NVR. There were travel opportunities (before they froze all the budgets). There is definitely a lot of opportunity to move between departments if you want to try on different hats, so might be a good fit for someone new in their career who isn't sure if they want to be in marketing, sales, HR, etc.
Cons
I worked on one of NVR's regional marketing teams, and while the experience had positive moments and I met some good people in my time there, I could not and would not recommend it to any marketing professional looking to grow in their career. NVR, across all levels all the way up to executive leadership, has fostered a culture of bullying. Fear tactics are used to improve performance, there is constant gossiping and rumor spreading, demotions happen routinely whenever leadership is unhappy with the sales numbers -- all in all, it will feel a lot like a high school cafeteria. I was in attendance at numerous meetings where individuals were targeted, berated and dog-piled on by leadership in front of many colleagues. As a marketing professional, your performance will be based on sales numbers exclusively, which means if the market is experiencing a downturn, you will be given a negative performance review even if your work that year was above average. The individuals who thrive at this company are those who have no problem stepping on others to boost themselves up the ladder, and it shows. HR is basically non-existent -- when I resigned from my position, the HR rep asked to have a exit interview where I could explain why I was leaving and then never followed up to actually schedule it when I agreed. There is zero flexibility, and they take pride in harmful mantras like "It takes what it takes," and "NVR isn't for everyone," (why be proud of a lack of inclusivity?!). This company is a classic example of the "rise and grind" culture that is finally dying out, thanks to an evolving corporate landscape where the employee holds more of the power. You have the power to choose a company that views you as a human instead of a number on a spreadsheet, cares about your mental health and overall well-being, and will value the skills that you bring to the table. NVR is not that place.
