Pros
I worked at NEON as a seasonal technician for two season in two separate domains. The opportunities to gain field experience in areas you are interested in as well as areas outside of your expertise are plentiful. Plus, you get paid to go out and collect data all the time without having to have a job that makes you camp out in a tent all season. Despite most technician positions being seasonal, a lot of domains still have people that come back year after year because it's worth it. My experience with NEON also gave me additional experience necessary to get into an M.S. program and advance my career even further.
Cons
When I worked there, the project was still starting up. There were definitely some hiccups getting everything figured out, but for a project with this scale, I was pretty impressed that there weren't more. I think a lot of people who complain about things not being perfect underestimate how many tiers there are on the totem poll that include both private and public aspects.
