Toxic and Dysfunctional - Anonymous employee National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Employee Review

Pros

There is opportunity to contribute to important issues, despite the nepotism, dysfunctional policies, hostile senior leadership and secondhand IT. I would have cited work-life balance until the recent revision of policy on rotations. The new policy? Go where we tell you, when we tell you, even if it mean losing your house and your spouse having to sacrifice their career. If you turn down a directed move you will be "invited to resign."

Cons

Senior leadership is a cult of "yes people" who are more interested in promotion by facilitating the organization's delusional policies rather than speaking up and trying to fix the organization. As a whole, the organization is adrift, with no focus, policies that contradict stated objectives, hostile HR policies that seem designed to push people out the door and horrible IT. The organization is a walking EEO complaint. Having worked in the military, several government agencies and in the private sector, this is easily the worst run organization I have experienced.

Pros

Great co-workers. Lots of time off

Cons

Poor senior leadership lacks effectiveness. Promotion decisions prioritize diversity objectives over merit, with less qualified junior personnel (mostly female) advanced to Band 4 and Band 5 positions ahead of more qualified candidates. Additionally, daily workloads are insufficient to fill an 8-hour shift.
