Tenure over experience and results - Individual Contributor National Instruments Employee Review

Pros

Quite a bit of autonomy to do the work you want and shape your career. People are generally very nice.

Cons

Lots of leadership without experience outside of NI or even within the field/area they lead. Lots of nepotism and politics that can play to your favor if you play the game, but bite you if you don’t. They promote tenure with the company (not credentials/qualifications or actual experience) and if you mess up in one department and are one of the “favored ones,” you’ll just get promoted to another area of the business, whether or not you know anything about it. Accountability is pretty much unheard of and lack of experienced leadership really hurts the productivity of the teams and employees who actually have to execute and do the work to run the business.

Great place to work, wonderful environment and people.

Cons

Teams were let go after they were purchased. I'm not sure how it is now.

Smart and supportive co-workers who are willing to help and share knowledge. Exposure to full product development cycle. Generally positive company culture.

Career advancement can be slow, with limited opportunities for promotion or lateral movement in some orgs. Compensation growth tends to fall behind. Several org changes following Emerson acquisition.
