Pros
Every pro you've heard or read is true. It's comprised on the staff and faculty level of awesome people. I was lucky to be at a great campus, with an amazing staff support system. The benefits were pretty good, I guess I'll find out how good as I make my transition.
Cons
Every con is true. The pay for the amount of work you do, and responsibilities you take on when others quit, because it happens all the time, is ridiculous. They don't make any effort to "retain" their "talent". They just dump more work on them. This was a mission statement in the President's address last year. The goal was to find more ways to retain their talent. Yet they laid off a ton of individuals with redundant job responsibilities without warning. There was never any kind of communication from top management confirming what direction they were going. So, like any company looking to make more money (I really hope it's for the students), they cut loose those who weren't needed in their eyes. I don't blame them, it's what companies do...except for the fact that NU in NON-Profit. So what happened? What consultant came in and decided to restructure in the manner they did? My guess is a lot of charts and graphs were involved. Bummer for those affected.
