Pros

Once the greatest news organization in the English-speaking world, and a proud defender of democracy, the NYTimes has been humbled by financial concerns and become just another slick outlet for clickbait and GOP-Beltway talking points.

Cons

Long hours, surprisingly mediocre pay, back-stabbing and condescending, hyper-ambitious colleagues. The sad Orwellian realization that a news organization that acted with such courage during the civil right movement is behaving with such cowardice now that democracy is under assault.

Pros

Challenging and rewarding work. You'll work in an environment that publishes the news everyday, if you are excited about helping people learn more about the world, you'll love it here. Good benefits, hybrid work, and really smart coworkers.

Cons

Does not pay like big tech but as an IC you'll be part of union with job protections
