Pros
Pros - simple, straightforward business model creates fundamental learning opportunities and develops baseline business knowledge.
Cons
The family ownership effects are far reaching and unfortunately impact the business negatively. The best intended efforts, like those related to demonstrating care for employees, come off as disingenuous; family actions, words, behaviors, belie the intent. This ownership group, blinded by, and perhaps even driven by, insecurity and ironic narcissism, believe their actions go unnoticed by their employees...not so. As a result the environment borders on toxic, with healthy doses of silliness, embarrassment, and awkward moments. These owners think very little of their employees, yet...the owners think very highly of themselves. A lot is done to hide that, but the transparency of the family owners ego-driven behaviors and actions, all in the context of the kiddie-business summer camp cocoon they have created for themselves, demonstrates their lack of respect for employees and an unbalanced, unhealthy, and obvious focus on their own standing.
