Pros
Nice people, great work life balance, good benefits and pay, easy to get time off. Increases are good off of auto increase cycle. Every April the company increases each employee 2, 3 or 4% usually. Can be 0% based on how business is doing. Somehow each year around April business is terrible so management plants the seed that budgets are tight. Anyway, with the auto increase, your manager can give one employee 0% and another employee 8% so there is leeway to shift the monies around.
Cons
I don't think I worked with a leader that wasn't in it to win it. Taking credit for others ideas, manipulation of "what so and so said" to their gain. The gossip is absolutely out of control at Nordstrom. It is extremely unhealthy. This takes place at the lowest levels. (The have a fancy inverted pyramid that puts leadership on the bottom of an org chart. So when I use lowest level of leadership, that's the executives- basically it just makes in confusing when having discussions around structure and leadership). The merchants run the company more so than the Nordstrom brothers. Probably a good thing. But they say (which is hot vapor) they are a marketing driven company. No, not at all.
