Pros

Better pay than most retailers but you will not be full-time and most likely never get benefits.

Cons

This store seemed pretty good, but as I have noticed young people dominate even in management and some do a terrible job of managing people. Older workers are rare and so are men working here. This store has lost good people and there is a supposed "list" of people they want gone. I have noticed certain employees are constantly being called to "HR Office" by our dept manager for complaining about working conditions, how we are treated and favoritism. Instead of threatening employees with being sent home or being written up because they are unhappy at the treatment they receive at work - FIX the problem, but many at this store feel no one cares and after recent events they are even afraid to go to corporate HR. Some have spoken to HR but nothing happened. I feel that some I work with one in particular is that management is out to get this person. The management says not to gossip but they listen to gossip take it as absolute truth and say you are lying if you disagree. I had an incident not long ago where I was accused of saying something which I had not but my manager insisted that her source was good, therefor I was lying. I feel like I am stuck in a bad place here, and have been looking for a new job. My health isn't good because of the great anxiety of having to go to work, and constantly feeling like I have to watch my back. God forbid someone take something I have said out of context and run to the manager to say what I had said. This store has a little group of buddies that tell on others and probably hang out with at least 3 of our department managers. Managers should not be partying our hanging out with the employees - this is not high school. It is unfortunate that this retailer is a lot like other retailers in that you are not worth it to be given full time hours and you are easily replaceable so if you are unhappy there is the door. If I didn't have financial obligations I would have been gone months ago but I cannot find a job. I cannot leave until I do so. Some of use talk to each other because we feel there is not one there that cares. Mangers can be snippy and sometimes downright rude but one little thing like sticking up for yourself is a no, no. You are told you are being disrespectful and how dare you talk that way to a manger. Managers here rarely practice what they preach, respect starts with management. If you do that your employees will respect you for that. This is probably one of the worst work environments I have ever worked in.

Pros

Decent base pay, somewhat autonomous, great tip potential.

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
