Pros

Nordstrom return policy is customer centric.

Cons

The entire company is misleading from your hire date. If you are hired as a “full time” employee one would think that would be 40 hours/week. At Nordstrom, this means you START with 35-37 hours/week depending on your particular line. In cosmetics, your hours are reduced even if your line is UP YTD/MTD. Upper management use hour reductions to bully and force employees to quit or eventually terminate. Upper management also uses scare tactics, consistently engage in gossip and enabling a toxic work environment. Nordstrom’s “zero retaliation” policy is a front. I have witnessed on several occasions, employees who are being mistreated, complain to HR and within minutes, their managers are told which causes a chain reaction of retaliation. This company is the most unprofessional and dishonest companies I have encountered in my ten + years in retail management. Particularly, Nordstrom in Cherry Hill, NJ. Managers use profanity on the floor in front of customers, favoritism is prevalent, and priorities are mismanaged. Nordstrom’s lack of hiring competent upper managers trickle down the employee ladder and is reflective in the disservice it provides to customers.

Pros

Decent base pay, somewhat autonomous, great tip potential.

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
