Pros

This is a great place to work if you are all about building relationships and getting ahead because of those relationships rather than your achievements It's a great place to work if you like to dive into projects without taking the time to plan There is a discount for Nordstrom clothes for employees

Cons

Leadership is very confused and changes course each year. In the eight years I was there, millions of dollars were wasted and thousands of hours were wasted because of the inability of leadership to derive a meaningful definition of success for IT and establish a portfolio of projects prioritized to get IT to that successful place. Instead, those in charge relied on buzz words to make themselves feel successful and important and shopped for the latest in shiny products, which were custom implemented (read: hobbled) so that boxes could be checked off. The recent coup has assured that any old blood is gone and indicates that Nordstrom is intent on changing from a culture of work/life balance to one more like the fast-paced cut-throat technology companies it now feels like it's competing with.

Pros

Decent base pay, somewhat autonomous, great tip potential.

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
