Pros

Team work is essential to every unit in the hospital. Every floor I have been to shows a great effort to keep the unit afloat even through the worst of shifts.

Cons

When there are enough beds but not enough staff to cover them, nurses are frequently being overrun with work. The safety of the staff and patients should be the first priority. By understaffing and continuing admissions to nurses that are already overwhelmed, it creates an environment of animosity and resentfulness. Many nurses are leaving the bedside after many years of being staff because they are being overlooked and underpaid by the newer counterparts that are barely out of college. Many of the charge nurses, supervisors and managers are either very new to the role or do not know how to deal with a team properly and will not listen to their staff. Most upper management are worried about the bottom line, rather than the safety of staff and patients. Some nurses are being verbally and physically assaulted by patients who are out of control with no help from upper management.

Pros

I have been privileged to work for Northside Hospital for the past five years, and my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. During my tenure, I have benefited from the organization's commitment to employee growth through its annual internal promotion policy, which has allowed me to advance within my current department. One of the aspects I value most is Northside's support for work-life balance and professional development. While working here, I was able to begin my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program from the ground up and am on track to graduate in December 2026. The flexibility and encouragement provided by the organization have played a significant role in helping me pursue my educational goals while continuing to contribute as an employee. I was a full-time employee for most of my career with the organization and recently transitioned to part-time status to accommodate the increased demands of my nursing program. The support and understanding shown by management throughout this process have reinforced my appreciation for the company's employee-centered culture. I am grateful for the opportunities, professional growth, and support I have received over the past five years.

Cons

None that I can think of right now
