I was very excited to accept a job working at Novant Health as a receptionist with hopes of moving up in the company over time. Unfortunately, many things made the job unsustainable and had a significant negative impact on my mental health. My training was minimal and I was thrown to the wolves. My supervisor's response to my concerns was "when I was new I only had three days of training and had to learn everything at once, so you'll be fine too." It was very difficult and draining to try and figure things out on my own. When I tried asking questions I was either completely dismissed, or ridiculed with passive aggressive responses. In addition to all of this there was cliquey behavior which I did not anticipate experiencing as an adult. Many insulting comments were made over time which made me feel unwelcome. I tried addressing everything with management on multiple occasions because I really wanted the job to work out, but was only given the advice of "let's pretend like nothing happened and wake up tomorrow with a fresh start." I later learned that the person who held the position before me left on a lunch break and did not return, and the person before her also walked out. After learning this I realized that there was a pattern in this office that management did not want to address for whatever reason and therefore was not a sustainable working environment, so I requested to transfer within Novant, which was flat out denied. I had no option but to leave this job.
