Pros

Blocked scheduling 24hr open cafeteria

Cons

I experienced discrimination and Racism from management and staff on floor. I was always given all of the difficult patients even when I had a heavy case load and it was unsafe. I had to speak up and tell them it was unsafe and too much for one nurse. Even when I was taking care of Intermediate patients I was still expected to take care of the same amount of patients as just as if I was working the gen peds floor. I was accused of things that they never provided evidence that I did anything. They just let me go without even telling me to my face just told my recruiter and even he didn’t believe them nor did his boss at the agency. If you are an African American tread lightly. They only like blacks to work beneath them but anyone with a bachelors or above will be pushed out. I was one of only two black nurses on peds floor and I am a traveler. Not many black nurses. I’m sure that’s Not a coincidence. Pay not the greatest even for traveler so go some place else. This place not worth it. Will never work for OSF EVER AGAIN. Not In This state or another.

Pros

Strict ratios for nurses at this hospital. Med-surg never above 5 patients on day shift. Good 401k matching, good pto.

Cons

same issues as most hospital nursing environments. Being over-worked with very sick patients, feelings stretched too thin with less resources each year. that being said, this was a better environment than most hospitals.
