Pros

As the only MA in my department I got to do a lot of different things as an aspiring PA student. I learned how to do diabetic foot exams, obviously regularly took blood pressure and other vitals. I got to witness FNAs, I took blood glucose, etc. It did come with a $5k sign-on bonus which was pretty nice. Lastly, because Ochsner is so big in LA, it's usually good to have them as a reference or connection in general. You can very easily network with that. In fact mentioning that I'd recently gotten a job in my interview for school i think really helped since that particular school has a partnernship with them.

Cons

I barely got paid a living wage...I lived with my parents the entire time I had this job. I got paid $12/hr until we got a "cost of living" raise where I believe I made $13.95....couldn't even say I made $14/hr. If I wasn't living with my parents I certainly couldn't pay for an aprtment with that on top of food, car, health expenses, etc. Also their benefits are horrible and the ochsner healthcare plan wasn't that good for me (healthy young female who sees the doc maybe once a year).
