Pros

OuterBox might be good if you're trying to get into SEO and you're just starting out. There are a couple people in the SEO department who are great to work with and will train you well.

Cons

Their whole modus operandi is overworking people as much as possible. All SEO Strategists are effectively expected to work 50+ hours/week because they're given 15+ clients and if they raise issues, the department head and the CEO tell them they're just not working efficiently enough. Turnover is crazy high. Many people who got hired into the SEO department who had worked with other agencies or in-house didn't stay for even 6 months. They regularly underpay people, and in the SEO department you can only get a promotion *after* doing the additional work for 2-4 months. Then when you get promoted, you're expected to take on even more work to prove you're worth the raise. They just don't treat workers well or respect feedback at all. There's also a huge lack of diversity across the company and when I was there almost every woman in the SEO department told me they felt that leadership was misogynistic. Women are regularly looked over for promotions (there are zero women in leadership positions across the company) and told that they're being "sensitive" or "jealous" when they raise issues with leadership (this happened multiple times.) There is no maternity leave (you have to rely on disability insurance) and leadership is extremely vague about it whenever asked. They're also very protective of their "culture", which is basically frat bro culture mixed with Silicon Valley culture, minus the innovation and ping pong tables. Seriously, it's just awful. If you really need a gig, it's a paycheck. But for 99% of people this isn't somewhere you can build a career.

First off, we definitely have a ping pong table 🏓😊! We're always trying to hire women, but unfortunately in our industry we don't get as many applications from women. So women, PLEASE APPLY... we'd love to have you! In regards to maternity leave - we do have maternity leave. We follow all maternity regulations. If you're looking to work at OuterBox, please do ask us about the details of maternity leave if this is something that is important to you. We know the agency world isn't for everyone and we wish you had a better experience, but we know many OuterBox'ers absolutely love working here, especially as we've made many great strides with solid careers paths over the last year. We love to see employees grow both professionally and personally!

Pros

Some groups are very specialized and highly skilled There are some teams that care deeply about their clients and deliver really high performance Remote work Summer Fridays

Cons

The company has grown extremely fast but is not keeping standards up across the organization. It is clear that the quality of work and level of expertise varies significantly based on which team you are on. Some processes are built around certain offices or teams but don't consider the full organization. There is very limited engagement for culture events.
