A Decent Place that's not for Everyone - Card Fraud Specialist PENFED Credit Union Employee Review

Pros

Positive co-workers who more or less genuinely care about members and the company mission. Currently is attempting significant growth so there is possibilities to look around and move to different departments. Benefits are good. Start with 15 days vacation per year with 10 days sick leave.

Cons

Current growth push is exposing system issues that cause headaches and company is slow to respond and find solutions. Managers are overworked and pressed to show results, leaving managers no time to actually manage employees and promote employee growth and satisfaction. Salary is in the mid/low region for field of work. Company plays favourites with different departments, resulting in some departments having no budget for improvement or department/team building events while others have lunches and parties every month. Old style management is unreasonably averse to teleworking. Better flexibility would improve work life balance.

Pros

Awesome place and people - complex and large finance operation and balance sheet yet still small enough to make an impact and build up solutions from the ground floor - creative place!

Cons

Sometimes can be stretched for more resources

Pros

Great staff and middle management. Good benefits and facilities.

Cons

Upper Management - same tune as all the other reviews. This place is full of great people who don't know they are great. It's also full of bad leaders who think they are great. Unfortunately, the best performers are often rewarded with carrying the burden of underperformers and non-contributing leaders. In certain teams there is very limited in upward mobility. They are slow to weed out low performers and ineffective managers. All in, strong performers and high achievers might find this place frustrating. This is a place for those who like to coast through.
