Pros

Job Security: A stable work environment with minimal risk of layoffs or downsizing. Opportunities for Learning and Development: Access to training programs, senior engineers, and other resources to enhance skills and knowledge.

Cons

Poor Compensation and Benefits: Pay is below industry average, health insurance is average, average RRSP. They overemphasize the bonus which is peanuts (maximum $5,000 to $6,000) compared to the 20% - 25% (minimum $30,000) management receives. Recognition and Appreciation: No acknowledgment and rewards for hard work and contributions. Unsupportive Management: Managers plays a game of favouritism and are not understanding nor will provide any support. They will sell you down the river if you make a mistake on a project. Negative Company Culture: Get ready for a highly competitive environment in which if you don't suck up to the managers, you won't be "valued". Weak Leadership: Area leads, department manager, and regional manager do not provide clear direction, guidance, or support. They want you to value management perspective, even if the direction doesn't make sense. Work-Life Balance: Get ready to work a minimum 10+ hours of unpaid overtime. If you try to charge the overtime, you will be investigated for your time management abilities. If you don't charge your overtime, management will use it as a cover up as you didn't inform them and that it is your fault. Retention: The Edmonton office has the highest turnover out of any Power office in Canada. This simply comes down to management and their lack of experience.

Pros

Was a genuinely great place to work. Great people and great culture. It was worth the slightly-lower-than-average pay because work life balance and benefits were great. I enjoyed going to work every day.

Cons

Poor financial decisions from upper management regarding the shareholder program led to the company's demise. Upper management sold out to WSP. Management made millions while long time employees got zilch. As someone else had mentioned, retention bonuses were unfairly distributed. Most people didn't get any retention bonus even if they had been long time employees of the company. It really felt like everyone who wasn't upper management got stabbed in the back. They got their payout then dumped the company. Still stings to this day.
