Company feels unfocused. Very hard to feel connected to the work. - Software Engineer Palmetto Employee Review

Company pivots every 6-9 months which makes it really hard to take any new initiative seriously. I totally get iterating, but it takes a toll to do it so frequently and aggressively. As an example, the marketing teams got completely gutted every 12 months or so, to make room for new folks every time there was a major pivot. If you are in marketing, it doesn't matter what you do since you'll probably be laid off within the year. There is a lack of cohesiveness across the organization. Leadership seems invested in trying to create good culture, but there is no getting around the fact that the experience of working at Palmetto is too different between teams. Software teams are darlings (great pay, 4-day work week, little accountability) while Operations & Customer Service teams are massively overworked and tasked with meeting impossible goals. I was lucky enough to work under some great folks but quite a few of people have left due to management situations that were so bad they didn't even get new offers lined up, they just couldn't deal with the stress anymore. As a company I'd say overall leadership at Palmetto is quite empathetic and great to work with, but it only takes a few toxic folks to really put a damper on things. Very little connection to the work. It is all handed down by Product/Business with near zero input from folks doing the work. However, Product folks are almost all unfamiliar with Solar industry and Business side folks don't know tech so almost all initiatives go through crazy amounts of back and forth to complete even the most basic features.
