Pros
- Good benefits: generous time off, 401K, commuter benefits - Great office snacks - Beautiful office - Intelligent, hard working employees who want the company to succeed - Role flexibility and autonomy
Cons
- Overworked and underpaid: for a company focused on wellness it was impossible to find a work-life balance. Employees were told to 'Live the Parsley way' and 'destress and deep breathe' but that was impossible to do when working 12 hours a day, plus more late night at home. The compensation was not nearly competitive enough to be working these hours. It was also difficult to take time off, as it was expected that employees be checking emails, slack messages, etc. when OOO. - Rapid changes not seemingly supported by data: there were changes every day, typical for early stage startups (except this one has been around for a few years now) but it's hard to understand these changes when not supported by data. - Horrible layoff process: many staff were laid off on April 1, 2020 due to covid-19. This was done in an unexpected group conference call (no video, no time for questions, no conversation with supervisors). The HR team then made many errors in the follow up process and did not answer questions in a timely manner, or sometimes at all. Almost immediately following these layoffs, Parsley began rehiring for new positions as well as the same positions that people were laid off from.
