Pros
Pros 1. People at PayPal are generally great - very welcoming and friendly and want to work with you to get what you need done 2. Good social values but core company values are only inconsistently followed. 3. Generally (but not always!) good work-life balance and less stressful than other tech companies 4. Good overall benefits package, though not outstanding. I do really like using Schwab for my 401K
Cons
1. Base compensation is poor by industry standards. Raises have been minimal and lag behind inflation. Stock compensation is less enticing when the stock is performing poorly. Management regularly dodges questions about compensation when asked while patting itself on the back for small gains made with the stock. It is not hard to understand why we struggle to keep talent that could be compensated better elsewhere. 2. Large, sometimes confusing, organization with some teams that are very siloed. Identifying stakeholders and contacts can be difficult. This is not helped by regular reorganizations and constant name changes. 3. Management does not always provide good/strong leadership - reliance on external consultants finding places to make cuts, unclear prospects for growth and a lot of relying on "We will get through this" currently. There is also a major disconnect between management and employees in general and what management says and what the company actually does (in terms of job security, employee compensation, and other things) specifically. 4. Unclear growth potential for many roles, due to limited upward mobility and constant reorganizations. I felt like my only real way to take a step forward is to leave, which is why I went elsewhere. 5. Some areas seem to grasp the high-level obstacles to growth and efficiency without wanting to tackle the underlying issues - they take the easy way of rolling out a high-level policy or just laying people off instead of addressing cultural and other issues that prevent work from getting done.
