Pros

Substantial training, good name recognition, understanding and lenient with rookies, national call center assists with appointment setting. This is a company you can move up in, especially if you are willing to relocate.

Cons

Highly reactive at the corporate level and makes sweeping changes under duress from their stockholders without any consideration for the impact on the staff (and even more notably, the client). Service is plummeting, they keep adding sales divisions to add to their bottom line, but bombard every new customer with endless sales calls. Impossible to get current client referrals because nobody wants to put their friends in a position to get hammered by telemarketers. Accountants don’t want to refer Paychex because we poach their wealth management, and brokerage partnerships. The core sales division is getting virtualized and segmented into smaller market spaces, but asked to deliver more new clients year over year. The culture is disintegrating around us and we all want our managers to win, because they are generally good, but they have no shot at quota when the sales team members are abandoning ship before they drown. Pros

Paychex is a great company to work for. I’ve held multiple roles over 20+ years. There are always ups and downs, but for every position, manager, decision I disagree with, there are ten others that are outstanding.

Cons

It’s a large company with many opportunities to grow, but smaller companies may offer higher compensation.

Pros

Remote work is a plus. Collaboration from peers is more plus than minus. Documentation of business technology was great for the most part.

Cons

Worse holiday observance company I ever worked for. Pay is low for what is asked. Work/life balance was good until 2025. Mid-level leadership and above is not ideal. I had little guidance when I started so, especially from manager so had to figure things out with help of peers.
