Service model is in shambles and sales reps are disengaging and frustration is palpable - Territory Sales Representative Paychex Employee Review

Pros

There's plenty of core payroll territory positions available for recent college grads or less experienced sales people to add a few years with a historically admired company and open themselves up to much bigger opportunities after two years or less of base quota performance.

Cons

New compensation plan this fiscal cut the monthly bonus of the average and above average rep substantially. Inbound leads in 1-5 EE range no longer go to territory rep and isntead are given to virtual sales. 20% or more of unit and revenue has disappeared overnight for most reps and certain territories are much more severely impacted. Decent reps struggling to meet quota isn't uncommon. The conference and Circle level reps are leaving en mass because money isn't worth the day to day grind, rapidly fading culture and team atmosphere in many (not all) districts. Territory reps and district managers are struggling to enjoy the atmosphere these days as there has been a drastic increase in micromanagement of individual territory rep daily activity and strict requirements to log activity, in detail, in SalesForce each day.

Pros

People and the overall environment is a positive one. If you do your part, definite long term career potential. It’s not easy- but stable, growing. Worth serious consideration for early career looking for sales experience with a great training program. Also good for mid-career consideration if base salary isn’t the primary reason you are in sales.

Cons

Very fast pace that doesn’t suit everyone. If you are looking for easy or just a job to “hang out”, this probably isn’t the right spot for you.

Pros

Remote work is a plus. Collaboration from peers is more plus than minus. Documentation of business technology was great for the most part.

Cons

Worse holiday observance company I ever worked for. Pay is low for what is asked. Work/life balance was good until 2025. Mid-level leadership and above is not ideal. I had little guidance when I started so, especially from manager so had to figure things out with help of peers.
