Great opportunity to get your feet wet in IT...but look elsewhere if competitive salary is a requirement. - Developer III Paychex Employee Review

Pros

Excellent benefits package (such as tuition assistance, 401(k), medical/dental/prescription drug coverage) and a willingness to assist with training (in-house or vendor provided).

Cons

Salary compensation for this position is well behind other companies; as a result, employees with great work ethics and skills end up leaving. A great annual review typically results in a 2.5%-3.5% raise...which will just about keep you even with inflation. If you work at the corporate campus, your annual "bonus" is an invitation to the clambake...although there's uncertainty as to whether or not it's taking place this year. Also, the company exhibits a general stubbornness to not embrace (or even consider!) work/life balance policies generally accepted at other companies, such as job sharing or working from home.

Pros

Paychex is a great company to work for. I’ve held multiple roles over 20+ years. There are always ups and downs, but for every position, manager, decision I disagree with, there are ten others that are outstanding.

Cons

It’s a large company with many opportunities to grow, but smaller companies may offer higher compensation.

Pros

Remote work is a plus. Collaboration from peers is more plus than minus. Documentation of business technology was great for the most part.

Cons

Worse holiday observance company I ever worked for. Pay is low for what is asked. Work/life balance was good until 2025. Mid-level leadership and above is not ideal. I had little guidance when I started so, especially from manager so had to figure things out with help of peers.
