Pros
Company truck, phone, laptop, hotel, per diem, tools supplied. No shortage of overtime, great for someone without any other obligations.
Cons
Away from home constantly, dispatching logistics are poor.. don’t know if/when I’ll be home on any given night. Basically get thrown to the wolves to start out other than a week or two doing the actual work with another technician. Have to have your time worked approved by an offshore group of people who are constantly picking apart your paperwork. If they decide they don’t like it, you don’t get paid for that time until you fix it. This can mean as much as completely revisiting a site hours away from home just to take one picture. And get in trouble for it in the process. Company bites off more than they can chew, more contracts with minimal people and expects you to pick up the slack within the contract window. On call 24/7 with emergency calls for things that are absolutely not emergencies. Communication is not awesome especially outside of your immediate supervisor and other technicians in your region. Good luck getting ahold of anyone unless you’ve done something wrong. Supervisor is trying, coworkers are trying, but morale is low and the organization skills are atrocious. Processes and management changing constantly. What should take 45 mins on site takes 2 hours due to paperwork and jumping through unnecessary hoops. Could personally make the same pay and work the same number of hours and still count on consistency in my home life elsewhere.
