Pros

Penn Mutual paid for housing at Arcadia's faculty apartments. Apartments included in house kitchen, washer, dryer, cable TV, and guest wifi. As a sophomore, I was paid $18/hr. Company culture is extremely friendly. There isn't a divide between management and employees. I worked with a group of 5 actuarial interns. My summer project was meaningful though tedious at times. The information sessions gave good overviews of different jobs actuaries do at Penn Mutual. The smaller company size meant I had more access to different aspects of the company. I also had plenty of time to study for my exam during the internship.

Cons

Guest wifi policy prohibits video streaming. Penn Mutual HQ is in Horsham, PA. The location doesn't have much around it. Housing is still 15min away from Penn Mutual, so you will need a car. (Try to carpool with other interns to save gas.)

Pros

Base salary is standard within the industry and the benefits package is strong. The annual bonus is a genuine differentiator in total compensation. The work itself offered real opportunities to build technical skills, particularly for those in data and analytics roles, with access to projects that should have a meaningful business impact.

Cons

Organizational restructuring has been a recurring theme, creating uncertainty around team stability and long-term role security. Communication from senior leadership during periods of change was inconsistent, making it difficult to plan or feel confident in the direction of the company. Employees may find themselves in limbo when priorities shift at the leadership level.
