Pros

If you get into a department that is managed well, It can be a great experience. I have many friends who work outside of Outreach and they love the collegiate atmosphere. They are having a tough time now with the scandal but Penn State is not just a football school and eventually the university will come back better than before.

Cons

Stay away from Outreach. It is bloated at the top and they lay people off because they have to pay the directors high salaries. It always seems that they never layoff highly paid managers, but they'll lay off worker bees

Pros

My supervisor was fantastic: provided good feedback, flexibility in work schedule, opportunities for professional growth.

Cons

Usually 1-2 year contract, determined by grant funding and availability Workplace experience is more dependent on the individual researcher/research lab you end up working for than the university as a whole
