Pros

Great campus. Safe, collaborative working environment. Benefits are superb.

Cons

Too much emphasis on DEIB, ESG, and sustainability and other "nice-to-haves", and not enough emphasis on the good old basics of readin', writin', and 'rithmetic (aka English, Science, Math, Econ). And far too much money wasted on these "nice-to-haves" to the detriment of must-have mission critical disciplines. Insufficient raises and salaries for the mission-critical subject teachers and few promotion possibilites.

Pros

My supervisor was fantastic: provided good feedback, flexibility in work schedule, opportunities for professional growth.

Cons

Usually 1-2 year contract, determined by grant funding and availability Workplace experience is more dependent on the individual researcher/research lab you end up working for than the university as a whole
