Cons
What they hire you in as is what you're going to be for a good long while -- regardless of ability, skill, talent or any other logical factor. What you make when they hire you (after your probation is over) is what you're going to make as long as you work there unless you change jobs. There are no annual raises, no "top-outs", nothing. The .50 cent raise we all got a month ago was the first raise given to employees in over 10 years. There is no set standard by which everyone is held concerning discipline, work standards, attendance or anything for that matter. There are some people who can work for an hour or two then spend the next could hours in their cars smoking and then leave one, two, three, four and five hours early (whenever the heck they want) every day with no repercussions. These people can miss one or two days a week consistently and never occurrence out. Then there are people who are told that they have to use what little vacation time they have to go to their required doctor's appointments. By the way, after you've been there a year you start to earn LESS vacation time every week than you do in your first year. (0.93 hour earned per week in year one drops to 0.77 hours in year two -- they really have a good grasp on how to retain employees). There is no communication. I might be lucky to see the back of my supervisor's hard hat once or twice a week as he blew past me. No one's word means anything there. From the head of the operation Mark Knight to his lieutenants and their underlings. At first I thought it was just my peers who were liars making empty promises but then when I watched it coming out of the great Horse Himself (Knight) I realized it was part of the fabric of the environment. How can you expect to believe the word of your team leader when they tell you that you've got that new job next week whenever Mark lies through his teeth promising one man who has to take off a week because of an injury that his job will be waiting for him when he gets back. Upon said man's return, he approaches Mark and says I'm holding you to your word and Mark gives him a funny look and says you'll have to take that up with Jeremy Burton, turns his back and walks away.
