Pros

It's a fun and interesting environment to grow and learn in. Your coworkers and much like you, fellow animal enthusiasts and lovers a like that come by to try and educate people about their favorite animals. Plus getting to hang with animals 8 hours a day ain't bad either.

Cons

The cons are much more beefy, once you get past the glitz and glamor of getting to work with animals it takes a pretty steady and steep nose dive. Let's start with corporate, they are probably one of the worst companies I have ever worked for. The amount of care that is given to the animals is frankly abysmal, whenever they get caught they slap a bandaid on it and call it a day, but provide no hours to accommodate these new changes to animal care. Second the expectation on management and management, everyone in management at petsmart has drunken the kool-aid at one point or another. But these jellyfish people sit and complain about how gutted we are on hours but never give any pushback to corporate and just allow the floor people to slave away, and when it comes to management it is SUCH a hit or miss its almost laughable.

Pros

The company pushes for more and more from the bottom level employees without better pay. I worked there before the restructuring and; not much can make me cry, but working here sure did, even back then. I can’t imagine how anxiety inducing it must be to work there now. Animal welfare is a complete non-concern. The only thing that’s pushed is sell, sell, sell. It’s borderline dystopian. Bad management seems to be a common issue, not only from my experience, but many others’ as well. I worked until I was an exhausted sweaty mess to make sure everything in pet care or, when I groomed, the salon, was cleaned to perfection as expected of me (and I reiterate: “me,” because these standards were not expected of my co-workers, just me) and overall felt very unseen. The only times I did feel “seen,” was when mistakes were made. Work was treated like boot camp. A co-worker that was subtley targeting/bullying me, and even started rumors accusing me of racist remarks(!!!), was promoted and anything I reported was downplayed because they were friends with the assistant manager. Working here was an overall traumatizing experience.

Cons

Employees are expected to be work-robots
