Pros

- You get to meet lots of interesting animals - All of my co-workers have been friendly and easy to get along with; all of them have been the type to stand up for you and we all look out for each other - You learn a lot of ways to take better care of your own pets - You always know you're making a difference in the lives of the animals in your care. They're depending on you to keep them healthy and happy and to make sure they get loving homes, and that will drive you to keep working harder - You get to foster a love and respect of animals in children, which is a great feeling

Cons

- Prepare to get pooped on, peed on, and to deal with lots of poop/pee/dog barf - I've been bit by the pets in our store 10+ times - Sometimes pets die and it's very hard to not let it effect you -Pets are a sensitive topic to some people and they can get hostile if you tell them things they don't like - I've seen customers abuse their pets in the store and it's hard to watch - You have to deny people new pets for the sake of the animals in your care, and you'll get screamed at, hit, spit on, etc for it. I've had a man throw cans of dog food at me already, and a woman attacked my disabled manager when we wouldn't sell her a turtle to live in a fish bowl.

Pros

The company pushes for more and more from the bottom level employees without better pay. I worked there before the restructuring and; not much can make me cry, but working here sure did, even back then. I can’t imagine how anxiety inducing it must be to work there now. Animal welfare is a complete non-concern. The only thing that’s pushed is sell, sell, sell. It’s borderline dystopian. Bad management seems to be a common issue, not only from my experience, but many others’ as well. I worked until I was an exhausted sweaty mess to make sure everything in pet care or, when I groomed, the salon, was cleaned to perfection as expected of me (and I reiterate: “me,” because these standards were not expected of my co-workers, just me) and overall felt very unseen. The only times I did feel “seen,” was when mistakes were made. Work was treated like boot camp. A co-worker that was subtley targeting/bullying me, and even started rumors accusing me of racist remarks(!!!), was promoted and anything I reported was downplayed because they were friends with the assistant manager. Working here was an overall traumatizing experience.

Cons

Employees are expected to be work-robots
