Pros
Working with dogs every day was definitely a bonus. Getting to learn more about their behavior was also good becoming familiar with dogs that would come in often was also joyful. Coworkers were nice as well and finding coverage for shifts when sick was easy. The training process was thorough and relatively quick.
Cons
As a part-time employee, there is no respect for you. when Covid hit, I understand that some things had to shut down, but waiting four months to lay someone off and not having them on the schedule the entirety of those four months is not acceptable. The manager of the hotel was nice enough, but definitely did not have respect for some younger employees. If you get injured on a shift from an animal, do not expect to be sent home as you will have to continue your shift, even if Adequate coverage is present. Definitely not for the faint of heart as you will have to deal with excrement of all kinds, as well as dog fights, and behavioral issues. PetSmart does not allow for bully breeds in their playgroups. Many bully breeds were in these playgroups, which I personally am OK with, but thought was a bit strange as it is against policy. If you have any physical disabilities or health problems, I would not recommend this job As it is very physically demanding, and you are not able to sit for long periods of time and Part of the job duties are to perform a lot of tasks that are physically demanding.
