Pros

I started as a part time cashier and in less than 5 years moved my way up to management. The opportunity to advance in this company is amazing if you work hard and work in the right district/region (if you feel like your store management is holding you back, check for promotion opportunities on petnet at other stores). The benefits are great, the discount is great, if you dedicate yourself to the job and customers the sense of pride you feel is like none other. You get to meet representatives from the companies that you sell, they are full of great information to help you help customers. Of course, it's retail...customer service has it's obvious drawbacks. But I would not trade my job for the world. I truly feel like I am part of a team when I am at my store. I don't wake up in the morning and think "I hate my job". I am thankful everyday for the opportunity I have to work for Petco.

Cons

Depending on your district/region, lack of effective communication from corporate management can be an issue. Too many chiefs, not enough indians. Also, they want all stores to be the same as far as basic policies go but they will let older stores completely fall apart while opening up new stores at the same time. Why not revamp older stores and provide more hours instead of opening up new stores and letting the old ones fizzle out?

Pros

- Wonderful people under the Sr. Director level - Dogs in the office - Brand name carries weight on your resume

Cons

- Sr. Directors and above are largely nepotism hires rather than merit-based promotions - Leadership team is toxic and disrespectful, and that tone trickles down to other senior leaders - Gender favoritism shows up repeatedly, with women being asked to pick up the work of men without additional pay. Or men being promoted over women due to favoritism and not merit. - Nearly every employee I worked with was disengaged and functioning out of fear of layoffs rather than job satisfaction (layoffs happen multiple times a year) - The company's declining position also makes it harder to land your next role, since a recent Petco title now reads as coming from a struggling brand
