Pros

Passionate Animal Care! This company has a great focus on animal care as the Number 1 priority

Cons

This company lacks talent development, payroll structure, and competitive pay, so they rely on almost 100% internal promotion. I took over a location that had compromised animal walk scores and had to hire a whole leadership team with zero extra hours to train properly; instead I was told, "train on the go". How do I know the scores were compromised; because I worked with the Store Leader overseeing the store and watched her not do anything with her day, but bare minimums, and when I reported the actions nothing was done to this leader. This company lacks understanding of project management skills, and focus on culture. My Month at this location I was working 70-80 hours a week with progress as shown on scorecard, but held accountable as if I had made zero movement in this struggling store. Upper management doesn't care about development and needs of the stores; as it is a get-it-done attitude behind all the PC talk. Over 6 months of failing processes isn't a quick turn around with un-trained/ under developed associates and leaders. This company needs Leadership, perspective, and less management.

Pros

- Wonderful people under the Sr. Director level - Dogs in the office - Brand name carries weight on your resume

Cons

- Sr. Directors and above are largely nepotism hires rather than merit-based promotions - Leadership team is toxic and disrespectful, and that tone trickles down to other senior leaders - Gender favoritism shows up repeatedly, with women being asked to pick up the work of men without additional pay. Or men being promoted over women due to favoritism and not merit. - Nearly every employee I worked with was disengaged and functioning out of fear of layoffs rather than job satisfaction (layoffs happen multiple times a year) - The company's declining position also makes it harder to land your next role, since a recent Petco title now reads as coming from a struggling brand
