Pros

40% off of owned brands. That's about it.

Cons

Petco is by far one of the worst companies I have had the displeasure of working for. I have never seen such a group of useless managers at any other company. There are so many things wrong, I don't know where to start. First, is just the sheer lack of effort to have anything done correctly. Guinea pigs come in covered in ringworm, plumbers killing off stocks of fish because no one bothered to make sure they used non toxic products, busy salons stuck with one tub because no one wants to get it fixed. Then theres the staffing problem. No one seems to understand why no one wants to work for the company. The blame for all problems is passed down from upper management until it sticks with an employee who can't defend themselves. No one is properly trained, or properly paid. Petco would lie to Groomers who may try to work for the company by trying to get them to accept a lower wage because "if you make more hourly you don't get as much in commission" (btw I have done the calculations for varying wages, and news flash! YOU MAKE MORE PERIOD WHEN YOU MAKE MORE HOURLY.) Petco promises a sign on bonus but does everything in their power to not have to actually pay that out. I know of 4 groomers who never got theirs despite promises of it! Store managers would rather sacrifice the well being of the animals in their care just to avoid a customer complaint (grooming) or to spend the money to staff their animal care times properly to clean, feed, and monitor them properly (store). Petco may have the right idea in trying to increase the quality of their products, but it is failing to increase the quality of its training, management, and work morale. I have not worked with one person who does not hate this company.

Pros

- Wonderful people under the Sr. Director level - Dogs in the office - Brand name carries weight on your resume

Cons

- Sr. Directors and above are largely nepotism hires rather than merit-based promotions - Leadership team is toxic and disrespectful, and that tone trickles down to other senior leaders - Gender favoritism shows up repeatedly, with women being asked to pick up the work of men without additional pay. Or men being promoted over women due to favoritism and not merit. - Nearly every employee I worked with was disengaged and functioning out of fear of layoffs rather than job satisfaction (layoffs happen multiple times a year) - The company's declining position also makes it harder to land your next role, since a recent Petco title now reads as coming from a struggling brand
