Pros

Running a dynamic store with Hospitals and Salons is endlessly active and interesting if you sorround yourself with the right people. Amazing pet driven people who love their jobs.

Cons

- I was offered a raise to become the highest paid GM and said not because the location requires a bilingual Manager from EVERYONE I spoke to from vendors to employees to customers and even people inside Petco. - As soon as I said no I was told I would be moved anyway, when I asked why I was presented with a choice they said "we were hoping you'd say yes but were gonna force you either way." - Two DMs get on a call with me and ask why I am "being selfish." And try to guilt me into accepting because I am "holding up other peoples careers." - Days later I get a TM visit and am told me store suddenly is underperforming now(you wanted to promote me 3 days ago?) There is a lot more but HR had to step in and say this is inappropriate stop. After that is was incredibly awkward from visits to Leadership Summit... where Leadership literally says "we are here to answer questions we are transparent..." then all the questions anyone asks are told "we will get back to you one that," or my personal favorite, "let's talk one on one about this..."

Pros

- Wonderful people under the Sr. Director level - Dogs in the office - Brand name carries weight on your resume

Cons

- Sr. Directors and above are largely nepotism hires rather than merit-based promotions - Leadership team is toxic and disrespectful, and that tone trickles down to other senior leaders - Sexism shows up repeatedly, with women being asked to pick up the work of men without additional pay. Or men being promoted over women due to favoritism and not merit. - Nearly every employee I worked with was disengaged and functioning out of fear of layoffs rather than job satisfaction (layoffs happen multiple times a year) - The company's declining position also makes it harder to land your next role, since a recent Petco title now reads as coming from a struggling brand
