Pros

Its a pay check every two weeks

Cons

Petco puts out advertisement for grooming coupons at the groomers expense. When a $5.00 off coupon is used for grooming Petco only pays half of the coupon the other half comes out of the groomer pay. The money that is being deducted from the groomer is not on your pay stub but on a daily report that we recieve in the salon. Because the groomer is paying for 1/2 of the coupon advertisement then we are entitle to claim the advertising on our taxes. Us groomers have no control over advertising nor the coupons that are being deducted from us. My salon manager had a client that used 3 $5.00 off coupons all in one day, thats $7.50 deducted from her wages. The deduction of coupons adds up and can affect you making your commensation for that day or week. When you complain to management, they say its legal for them to deduct the coupons from our pay but it is also legal for us to claim 1/2 of the advertising on our taxes since its being deducted from our pay. I am not the only person that has complained about petco taking from the groomers.

Pros

- Wonderful people under the Sr. Director level - Dogs in the office - Brand name carries weight on your resume

Cons

- Sr. Directors and above are largely nepotism hires rather than merit-based promotions - Leadership team is toxic and disrespectful, and that tone trickles down to other senior leaders - Sexism shows up repeatedly, with women being asked to pick up the work of men without additional pay. Or men being promoted over women due to favoritism and not merit. - Nearly every employee I worked with was disengaged and functioning out of fear of layoffs rather than job satisfaction (layoffs happen multiple times a year) - The company's declining position also makes it harder to land your next role, since a recent Petco title now reads as coming from a struggling brand
