Pros

Pixelberry is a place where what you put into your work can reward you with how much you get back. As a result, you can grow tremendously and be given a lot of amazing opportunities that can make for exciting, challenging, and rewarding work if you put in the effort. The people I got work work with were some of the smartest, most talented, and kindest people I’ve ever met. From the day I joined, the team not only welcomed me but actively encouraged and supported my voice throughout. Probably the studio’s biggest pro is that it truly values you as a human being and that’s reflected in the treatment you get from the CEO, the managers, and most of your peers. And as a wonderful plus, it was amazing to work in a gaming environment where over half the employees are women. The culture here is extremely open and accepting with lots of fun game hangouts in between.

Cons

- Similar to startup-culture, the folks that put in more effort tend to bear a much larger burden which can lead to burning out. However, the studio has already been working on measures to help mitigate this. - Pixelberry is a wonderful place to learn and grow very rapidly. However, the trajectory for growth after a couple of years can be unclear. Depending on your team, you may find that the environment can become too ‘cushy’, which isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on what your professional goals are.

Pros

- the people are truly the only important aspect of PB. most folks there are passionate and dedicated, and the staff pool is one of the most diverse I've seen.

Cons

- poor management. I've seen people with zero management training getting promoted into managers, suddenly expected to manage 4+ people and providing little to no support for their team. I didn't have any opportunities for career growth, my manager didn't have time for me aside from putting out fires. - terrible communication between departments & products. quiet incompetence is a serious issue here. I know of several cases where people were not doing their jobs and somehow getting away with it for years. - they held a meeting in Aug 2023 explaining that layoffs were likely coming. it was transparency that a lot of other companies don't provide, however it absolutely ruined morale for the next 6 months. - another company where connections mean more than doing a good job. layoffs came in January 2024 and an entire product was sunset (Storyloom). however, people on the product that was still going (Choices) were let go to make room for specific Storyloom employees to be retained. even though they had zero experience working with the product. it was insulting.
