Pros
I can put the name of the program-Management Development Program- on my resume. Good benefits. The plants bottom line is making bonus for themselves. The employees bad mouth corporate daily. I learned I did not want to work for Wyman-Gordon, or PCC in any capacity. Ever.
Cons
Corporate hires and pays you but the plant gets you for free. So, the job description you were given is NOT the job you will be doing; the plant changes it immediately and you become the lackey. (And this happened in both rotations.) Its Co-op stuff, no teaching or direction is given. (But you are held accountable for everything you did not know that you were supposed to do!) NO HANDS-ON experience. In spite of the corporation's and the MDP's commitment, there is No supervision, No mentoring, No support, No oversight. The supervising employees are burned out, they work a outrageous number hours, and just work to get their bonuses. Meanwhile, you are thrown in the deep end of the pool and there is NO management development. Also, it's all Operations. And you live in shitty locations, without any interaction with plant workers outside of work. There is no respect for one another nor excitement in the workplace. Don't know how anyone is happy there- Oh, I forgot, they're not!
