Pros

The Emergency room Attending doctors are great and easy to get along with The opportunity to take care of some of the sickest patients imaginable Opportunity to gain experience at a level 1 trauma center

Cons

Nurse management is totally disconnected from the staff members they give raises on an "all or nothing" basis meaning everyone gets a raise or no one gets a raise. Its socialism. Very low pay for the area High acuity and high quantity of patients. Not abnormal to have 3 MICU/STICU/CCU patients held in ED as your (one nurse) assignment...ICU nurses dont even take 3 ICU patients and now I am expected to? A lot of turnover in every department but esp the ED.

Pros

Magnet status, Diverse patient population allows for greater experience. Trauma 1, Comprehensive Stroke Center, teaching hospital, high investment in EPIC utilization

Cons

Level of education of many nurses there is low, no requirement for minimum BSN, staff is young, turns over, a lot. Frustrating at times. Management not the best communicators, no constructive feedback, perhaps spread to thinly to be effective.
