Pros

You get a paycheck and the patients are in need and appreciate good care.

Cons

Management (90% of the good ones have been fired or resigned to save their mental health and dignity) and administration (most AODs aside) do not care about staff or patients. They care about the bottom line and nothing more. Repeated complaints regarding UNSAFE STAFFING and retaliation go ignored or are used against you. Quality nurses and past EXCELLENT nurse managers have been fired for standing up for their staff. The environment is toxic and you risk your sanity and your license every shift you clock in and accept an unsafe patient assignment. The conditions were bad four months ago but with the near complete replacement of quality managers with uncaring bullies has made the nurses bitter and fearful. If asked, I tell people to go to Florence or Columbia, anywhere but Tuomey, if you want to have a shot at safe care.

Pros

Magnet status, Diverse patient population allows for greater experience. Trauma 1, Comprehensive Stroke Center, teaching hospital, high investment in EPIC utilization

Cons

Level of education of many nurses there is low, no requirement for minimum BSN, staff is young, turns over, a lot. Frustrating at times. Management not the best communicators, no constructive feedback, perhaps spread to thinly to be effective.
