Pros
Positive work environment, teaching hospital, excellent apprenticeship/tuition reimbursement program, competitive salary, PTO allowance and benefits package
Cons
The accrual PTO program while it is generous, there are flaws. The accrual amount earned every 2 weeks is based on hours worked versus getting the amount you earn every two weeks based on how long you’ve been employed. Example; I used to accrue 8.532 hours every 2 weeks regardless if I worked 80 hours per pay period or not. The most recent policy is based on the amount of hours worked. Now I accrue .1078 per hour worked. So if we have low census and I’m sent home, I’m not only losing pay, I’m also losing PTO accrual. This might not matter to some employees, but since they’ve changed the policy it has drastically affected the amount of PTO I am accruing each pay period. I think it is important for prospective employees to be aware of the policy before they make a career changing decision and I will give an example based on a hospital supported clinic; If a holiday falls on a workday and the clinic is closed you must use PTO. This is the only Con I can think of, but it’s a pretty important one.
