Many employees at all levels were sacked often. If you are indispensable you may get promotion and pay hike but there is a high possibility for you to get sacked in future. There are a few in leadership team who are not comfortable working with employees intelligent than them and afraid of losing their importance and only yes men can work under them. There are a lot of redundant roles. Stop promoting just for the sake of promoting and making employees ineffective on their new roles. If you are a new employee you may feel isolated and feel reporting to a boss not smarter than you.
