Pros

Pays sort of well, smaller training group, a senior mentor once you're on the floor.

Cons

This job was not stated as a sales position, and instead was classified as a marketing position. So, while waiting on the floor in the sales office for my interview, I believed that this was mostly a company focused on sales that was looking to expand into marketing. Throughout the interview and Skyping with the director, they all basically told me that I would be marketing and would make calls to other universities and their contractors to expand the brand of PSPSports. Being young and naive, I didn't realize they were going to do a bait-and-switch where I was then placed into a sales role. Being paired with a senior mentor on the floor was awful. She was very aggressive and not supportive. She made mistakes when I made my first few sales and then told me to not tell anyone that she messed up, leaving me to sort of fall on the sword because she's sitting there listening to my conversations with others. I was also given a script that allowed for no freestyling and was assured the script was golden. The scripts are awful and often the answers don't completely meet the needs of the people you're talking to. The same leads were given to MULTIPLE people, so you end up calling people who then flip out at you because we've contacted them so many times already. I quit after 2 weeks and was told to "peace out immediately" from the supervisor after I offered to give 2 weeks notice. I was asked to not collect anything at my desk at all, but I went back and grabbed my purse anyway and never looked back.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear you did not have a good experience as we take great pride in providing a fun and pleasant environment for all of our employees. In addition to always allowing candidates to sit among our sales staff during the interview process to observe and see first hand what they do, we have always taken great strides to be more than clear about what exactly the job entails. Most candidates meet with multiple staff, all of whom are trained to make this abundantly clear. Additionally, the job advertisements we run are always classified as sales and have a job title of "Inside Sales Representative." We are sorry that you did not get a full understanding of the job during this process. Additionally, we have great faith and trust in our sales managers and typically receive tremendous feedback on them from our sales staff. Again, it’s unfortunate you did not get the same experience. We are happy to continue this conversation and certainly welcome your feedback. Please reach out to our HR department to discuss further.

Pros

Working with PSP is unique because you have firsthand access to Major league sports material. It's cool to say I work in sports publishing. I like my coworkers and those in office with me. We have good camaraderie and keep the office culture lively.

Cons

I do not feel valued by this company. This winter we had three heavy snowstorms and when I asked if I the company would be closing for safety, my boss looked at me and laughed saying "the company doesn't care about that." Turns out many of my coworkers have had to drive through blizzards and awful conditions in order to come in multiple times. Recently the company decided to give us "summer Friday's", except in order to receive the benefit of leaving at 2pm on Friday, we had to come in a half hour earlier everyday all summer to "make sure we're not losing manpower". This doesn't make me feel like you value my time or want to make sure I have a healthy work/life balance. I'm expected to bend over backward and still preform at max capacity. I feel like the company would take an chance to screw over it's employees to cut costs and I don't appreciate working under that type of management style.
